Exam countdown

How to turn an exam countdown into a study plan

A countdown creates urgency, but a useful plan turns that urgency into specific work while protecting sleep, school and recovery time.

Confirm the dates first

Use dates published by your school, examination centre or official awarding body. Add them to your normal calendar before planning revision so travel, clashes and morning exams are visible.

Work backwards in three phases

Use the earliest phase to identify gaps and relearn important material. Use the middle phase for retrieval and exam-style practice. Reserve the final days for correction, representative questions and light recall rather than an impossible volume of new content.

Plan the nearest two weeks in detail

A complete multi-month calendar quickly becomes outdated. Keep a broad list for later topics, but schedule only the next one or two weeks precisely. Review it at the end of each week using completed work and marked practice.

When time is short: prioritise topics that are both important and realistically improvable. Do not remove sleep, meals or every break to make the calendar appear complete.

Make exam eve deliberately light

Prepare materials, check the start time and use brief familiar recall if it helps. A timetable should reduce last-minute decisions, not create a final punishment session.
